Ethiopia

Ethiopia in a wheelchair
Wow. Where do I sign up?

Accessibility Bitch, the sequel

For the last five years my Beloved and I have been promising each other new dishes for Christmas. We currently have a random mixture of two sets of the marvelously durable Denby, and so we’d like to replace them with more Denby.
Yesterday we went to our local Dillard’s (yes, that Dillard’s), and sure enough, the [...]

page-break-before:always;
Forces a page break in the printed page before the element it’s on. Works in IE!

Hummus recipe?

I’m jonesing for hummus. Anybody got a good recipe to share?

Agent Fang

Gotta like anybody who writes “It’s important to remember You Can Be Disabled and Stylish”. Check out Agent Fang, The Deviant Lid Flipper.

(Don’t) Have chair, will travel

Maybe it’s just me, but it seems to me that someone who consistently needs to use a wheelchair in public places might want to investigate acquiring one of his own: Missing Chair Holds Up Wheelchair Appeal

A court case over a disabled man charged for a wheelchair at an airport was held up - because no [...]

The truth dawns

We’ve been married twenty years, and I think I may finally be convinced that he’s not kidding when he says he doesn’t like garlic.
Maybe I should throw the garlic press away, as penance. (It’s such a nice one, though - I’m not sure I’d ever find another one like it, when I’m a widow.)

Anachronism

Very non-19th century, in my prairie dress and high tech titanium wheelchair.

Time flies …

I’d always planned to re-do the RMVR website using PHP or something one of these days, maybe add a search function. Then the administrative address and phone number changed (it’s on every page! sometimes twice!), and I got a couple of complaints about finding things, and lo, the time was right.
I spent a couple of [...]

Minding our Ps and Qs

Listen up! If we want able-bodied people to respect the laws pertaining to handicapped permit parking, we have to respect those laws, too! No parking in the striped access aisle, no blocking the curbcut, even if you do have a permit.

Awww…

Via Fazia, Disabled dolphin jumping again with world’s first artificial fin.

Falling

I was talking to a guy with MS recently. He maintains that if it’s one of those split second terror things, it’s a fall, but if you sort of slide down to the ground in a controlled fashion because you don’t really have any other choice, it isn’t. His home health aide maintains that any [...]

Quilters Report

Well, that was amazing!
We did two shows, Friday and Saturday. Both nights were sold out. The first night in front of an audience was incredible - they laughed, they cried, they clapped. All of the actors adjusted beautifully to the new timing, slowing down to let the audience react. The amazing lighting really helped make [...]

Better Today

No, I’m probably not a better actor, but I feel better. Wednesday I worked a full day, then went to rehearsal till eleven. Yesterday I left work at noon and took a 4 hour nap before rehearsal. Big difference!
Big article on the production in the Broomfield paper (registration required, or go to bugmenot for a [...]

Bleah

Ok, I officially suck at acting. Come to the play, but avert your eyes when I’m on stage.
Also, I’ve got a migraine, and vertigo, and I can’t seem to move without hurting myself in some assinine fashion. My daughter, whose run of South Pacific is entering its second week, is in a similar psychological state. [...]

Quilters

Very busy this week with Quilters. I’m emotionally up and down - from “What am I doing on this stage with people who actually know how to act and dance and can move normally?” to “Dang, I’m good!” Probably actually somewhere in the middle. It’s fun playing dress-up, but not so fun getting in and [...]

Things I don’t want to be reminded of

I remember going through this last year.
It’s a good day to pause for a moment and think kind thoughts about Laika, who gave her life to space research. Thanks (maybe) to Fazia for the reminder. More detail at Sven Grahn’s Space Place.
It’s not logical, but Laika’s fate upsets me so much whenever I think [...]

All Saints’ Day

It’s All Saints’ Day (or All Hallows Day, the day that All Hallows’ Eve [Hallowe'en] is the vigil of). (Ghastly sentence.)
Some All Saints’ Day info:
All Saints - Wikipedia
Millions in Europe revere All Saints’ Day
Tomorrow is All Souls Day, for the less-sainted dead.

That confused me, too

Jill has pointed out the essential weirdness of the Republicans being red and the Democrats being blue. Now I understand why I can never remenber which is which.
This weekend was a sewing weekend, which means I listened to Deutschlandfunk for hours (thank you, streaming internet radio). The coverage of the PDS-Parteitag was quite a change [...]
