An Excess of Kindness

I went to the library for lunch (yummy hot chicken salad) and on the drive home wound up behind an elderly man in a very beat up old car. Turns out that he had a habit of coming to a dead stop (on a major east-west thoroughfare) for every car trying to turn out of [...]

Cooking for Engineers

Mrs. OotFP, you’re going to love this! What a wonderfully elegant way to present a recipe.
Via Confessions of a Girl Geek, while trying to figure out why Spam Karma is turning off email notification of real comments.

Being Patronised

I went to a home improvement place yesterday to buy faucets and a sink, and to look at tile. Elderly Guy was working the tile department, and asked if he could help me. I asked about samples, and he muttered something about lending out sample boards, then looked down at me gravely and said, sadly, [...]

Remodeling

Our remodeling has begun. I came home last Monday evening to find that all the furniture had been moved out of the living room, and carpet removal was underway. Now the steps have been dismantled, the gas fireplace removed, and the drywall cut out to the level of the new floor.
Remodeling background: we have a [...]

Weather

I think we can declare the migraine gone now, thank goodness.
Now I just have the irritating tingling and numbness (yes, Virginia, thanks to MS I can have both at once!) in the right arm and the shooting pains in the legs.
Argh!! Symptom journal! I hate symptom journals! I will not keep a symptom journal!
Nice weather [...]

Good Spam Karma

Without any intervention from me (that I recall), Spam Karma has figured out how to send digests (1 email per 10 spam comments) rather than 2 emails per comment. It’s working beautifully now.
I still have the same low-level migraine (what, 2 weeks now?). Maybe it’s the new glasses.

Rocket Science

I watched the Deep Impact launch in the auditorium yesterday with a couple hundred other people (don’t anybody call the fire marshal), including a lot of spouses and kids visiting for the occasion. It was a beautiful launch.
Man, I love this job.

Migraine, MS

Bad things starting with “M”?
What this migraine lacks in ferocity, it makes up in length (three days so far) and general ugginess (is that a word)? Using crutches exacerbates my already very painful neck and shoulder muscles.
Anyways, bitch, moan, whine, etc. It’ll be better soon (she says hopefully).

Fish update

The fish have found a new home at Petland. I had to avert my eyes from the tiny puppies, but at least I’m relieved of the fish.

No Fish!

For the second year in a row, a high school swim team girl has decided that it’s cute to give goldfish (last year it was one, this year it’s three!) as a gift. NOT! Girls, a water bottle is not a suitable goldfish container. A house that doesn’t already have fish is not a house [...]

Woohoo!

Spam Karma just knocked 57 nasties out of the park!
On the other hand, it sent me 113 emails to tell me that.
Hmmm.

Comment Spam

Comment spam’s got me down. I was using Nick Momrik’s Recent Comments hack, but it also displays comments awaiting moderation. Sometime I’ll get ambitious and hack it to only show approved comments, but for now I’ve removed recent comments from the sidebar.
Time to go hunting for some better comment spam killing tools.
